Hello! I’m from Battle Ground, Washington, just north of the Oregon/Washington border. Never having been to Colorado, I understandably decided that it would be the perfect place to go to college! Something was drawing me to this area, and I strongly believe that I have found the reason why. While vigorously searching for a college, filling out dozens of decision matrices along the way, I had myself convinced that I was not going to end up at Mines. I was afraid it would be too small, too far, and and too focused. But as I got closer to making my final decision I began to realize that these traits are what make Mines able to support its students so fully, and what enables its students to rise above in the working world. I was absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement upon receiving this scholarship because I knew that I would be joining an amazing community that supports the rare individual who seeks to understand the predictable, technical aspects of the world, motivated by environmental awareness, humanitarian issues and community involvement. I plan to use my love of science and math and my passion concerning global issues, to go beyond the technical, and to encourage the development of peace and understanding around the world, and my introduction to this amazing community of scholars has shown that I’m where I am meant to be. I have already jumped into about a dozen different organizations on campus, including the Mines Marching Band, Equality Through Awareness, and the Society of Women in Physics, and am excited to see what all I can do with this extraordinary opportunity. I hope to make my new Harvey family proud!
