Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Harvey scholarship cover?
The Harvey Scholarship covers full tuition and fees (excluding housing) for 4 years (8 semesters) including field session (if applicable). Scholars can request additional funding for a 5th year (cases will be assessed individually) for circumstances including pursuing a double major, a master’s degree, or difficulty sequencing courses due to studying abroad.
The Harvey scholarship also provides an enrichment grant for studying abroad, professional development, and other such opportunities. Enrichment grant funding is subject to approval and Harvey scholars must be in good academic standing to qualify.
How do I apply to the harvey scholarship?
Applicants interested in applying to the Harvey Scholarship Program must complete the Mines General Scholarship Application (available through Trailhead). Students must be admitted to Mines before they can gain access to Trailhead and the Mines General Scholarship Application. Upon completion of the general scholarship application, prospective students can then continue on to apply for foundational scholarship, including the Harvey Scholarship Application.
For questions about the general scholarship application or to report issues accessing the Harvey scholarship application, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@mines.edu or at (303) 273-3301 (Toll Free at 1-888-446-9489).
Do I have to fill out the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship?
Completion of the FAFSA is recommended to be considered for need-based aid, but it is not required for consideration for this scholarship.
When will I be notified if I have been offered an interview?
Applicants will be notified in late March for the 2025-26 academic year.
When are the interview dates?
Interviews for the 2025-26 applications cycle will take place in early-to-mid April 2025.
How will interviews be Held?
Interviews will be held over Zoom and conducted by current Harvey scholars. All virtual applicants will receive a Zoom link prior to their scheduled interview time. Interviews will take place at Mountain Time.
When will I be notified if I have been awarded the scholarship?
We will inform interviewees of their status by late April 2025, announcing both awardees and alternates. Awardees will have 48 hours to make a decision. Because of the quick turnaround time, we highly advise candidates to regularly monitor their email for updates. If an awardee does not respond within 48 hours, they will forfeit their award, and a new awardee will be selected—no exceptions.
Once a scholar, what do I need to do to keep the scholarship?
Applying students must enroll at Mines for the Fall 2025 semester. Once at Mines, scholars are required to maintain good academic standing and must fulfill scholarship expectations, including attendance at monthly luncheons, required events, and participation in the application review process. Scholars must complete at least 24 credit hours across the Fall and Spring semesters of each academic year and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
