Jewel Newman

Hi everyone, my name is Jewel and I’m majoring in mechanical engineering and double minoring in metallurgical and materials engineering and the McBride honors college. I’m originally from Oregon but I have really enjoyed exploring Colorado although I miss lots of trees, rain, and no sales tax on occasion. I’m involved in undergraduate research and ASME on campus, I studied abroad in Spain, and I recently started a home worm composter. I’m really interested in the intersection of energy systems and material science and hope to pursue a graduate degree related to that in some capacity. I’m also very grateful to the Harveys for giving me this opportunity to study at Mines and be a part of this awesome community! Mines is a great college and really exemplifies the idea that you get out what you put in but also requires that you find a balance between everything. The Harvey community really helps in that aspect. I appreciate having people to lean on and to inspire me to work hard and give back. Without the Harveys help I would not have been exposed to these new opportunities that have helped me to grow as a person!
