Miranda Manfre

Growing up only 20 minutes away from campus, I mistakenly fell into the group of locals that tend to disregard Mines. It wasn’t until I officially visited campus that I realized the privilege of a Mines education, and now, I can’t believe I ever overlooked it!  Outside of the classroom, I compete on the varsity track team, serve as the community outreach coordinator of the Mines Chapter of the Brain Exercise Initiative, and participate in the Mines Mathematics and Computing Collaborative. I’m also a member of the Pre Medical Society because my dream job is to be a pediatric surgeon. To me, making someone well again after illness is one of the grandest expressions of paying it forward, and since I was three years old, I have never once faltered on my longing to help people everyday as a doctor. To unwind, I love to bake gluten free goods and share them with friends. I’m a certified chocoholic, so you’ll most often catch me baking chocolate cake, but I’m also a big fan of going off recipe and experimenting with new dishes. I am extremely grateful for the generosity of the Harvey family. The scholarship provides me the opportunity to collaborate with other amazing, hardworking people. As a part of this community, I hope to challenge others and to be pushed myself so that we can have a bigger outreach and help the greatest number of people.
