Peyton Juker

Hello! My name is Peyton Juker, and I am originally from a suburb of Houston, Texas. I moved to Colorado the summer before my senior year of high school and absolutely fell in love with it. The breathtaking scenery coupled with the beautiful weather made it impossible not to. During high school, I participated in the National Honor Society, tutoring my peers, and volunteering outside of school. The activity I enjoyed the most, however, was hospice volunteering, which came naturally to me being that my mother is a hospice nurse. Being able to support families going through the loss of a loved one was extremely fulfilling and taught me the importance of spreading kindness to those around me. At Mines, I have yet to fully commit to one major, but am currently planning to study either chemical or environmental engineering. An internship I held at an environmental sustainability research firm enhanced my interest in reducing the impact we, as humans, have on the environment and world around us. This is something I hope to focus on during my studies. Mines is such a small, tight knit community situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains; this, accompanied with the amazing opportunity this scholarship has allowed me, made it an easy decision to pursue a degree at Mines. I couldn’t be more grateful and honored to be chosen for such an incredible scholarship. Because of the Harvey Scholarship, I am not only able to attend Mines with little concern over financial difficulties, but I will also be able to travel abroad for the first time, which I certainly look forward to. More than that, I look forward to the future and know that Mines will prepare me for whatever it has in store.
