Born and raised outside of Sacramento, California, I always thought I would stay in California for college. I love California and come from a very outdoorsy family that enjoys the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains as our hiking and backpacking playground. Having developed a passion to protect and preserve our environment through these frequent outdoor adventures and having always loved math and science, I also knew I wanted to study Civil and Environmental Engineering. With that, Mines found its way onto my list of potential colleges due to both its superb academic reputation and its amazing location by the Rockies. After visiting the campus during my scholarship interview, I knew immediately that Mines would be a place where I would thrive and be able to fulfill my personal and academic aspirations. Aside from the unique and amazing Harvey scholar body, I am involved with the Adventure Leadership Community, Mines Without Borders, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. I’ve also developed a case of “summit fever” since being here, and I plan on completing all 58 Colorado 14ers by the time I graduate! I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Harvey for their gracious generosity and allowing me chart a new path in life. Being a part of this community has been fantastic, and I look forward continuing to make a difference for others through our overall mission of paying it forward.
