My experience with the Harvey Scholarship was formative. It defined my career at Mines and opened countless opportunities. It connected me to undergraduate research that ultimately resulted in pursuit of a master’s degree; it provided me the ability to spend a summer in India in conjunction with that research; it allowed me to hone my public speaking skills while emceeing several Mines events for which the attendance was over 300 people and many other things beyond. The value of the Scholarship far exceeded the monetary benefits in part because of the doors it opened, but also because of the community it built. I cannot say enough about the quality of the people I had the privilege of being surrounded by on a regular basis. I will take the values, lessons and connections of the Scholarship into everything I do in the future.
