I am a senior studying biochemistry. I was attracted to Mines by the idea of a university that could prepare me for medical school while giving me the skills and problem-solving abilities of an engineer. What made me fall in love with Mines was the people; I’ve had the opportunity for the last four years to engage with some incredible, crazy, quirky, passionate people. Currently, I’m doing on-campus research with the Posewitz group working to study and maximize lipid production in algae to further the biofuels field. I’m also a member of APO (a coed service fraternity), the women’s rugby team and a medieval combat club. During my final semester, I am using the Harvey enrichment grant to take EMT classes at Red Rocks Community College; my goal is to graduate with both a biochemistry degree and a practical skill set I can apply immediately to helping people in a medical setting. I plan to volunteer or work to gain practical experience as an EMT during a gap year and then apply to medical school.
