I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and until my junior year of high school I had never heard of the Colorado School of Mines. It popped up when I started seriously researching engineering schools, but even with its outstanding credentials I didn’t see myself attending. That changed immediately after my first visit. Many things about the school influenced my interest, but the main ones were the humanitarian engineering program and the community feel. I’ve wanted to use engineering to help other for as long as I can remember which really made the program seem like a perfect fit. That feeling was only increased by my introduction to the Harvey Scholars. Here at Mines I plan to study mechanical engineering, am a teaching assistant for the Thorson first year honors experience, and am a member of the club woman’s rugby team.
