Rachel Dobronyi

Hi, my name is Rachel Dobronyi. I am very honored to be a Harvey Scholar and being a part of this community. I am a Colorado native and was born in the hospital where my parents met. I have a brother who is exactly 2.5 years younger to the day than me. I am from Highlands Ranch, where my mom, dad, brother, two dogs, and two cats live. I enjoy mathematics and sciences and anything to do with art, except perhaps graphic designing. For fun, I really enjoy outdoor Colorado activities, i.e. paddle boarding, hiking, camping, and white water river rafting. I am passionate about individuals who learn differently and who have learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. I have seen and felt the impacts of learning differently and have worked to raise awareness about dyslexia. My foray into advocating for students began when I gave a speech to my local school board asking them to teach teachers about dyslexia and to give teachers what they need to help students. Since then, I have spoken to our State Board of Education, with our legislators, education officials, and teachers on meeting these kids’ needs. I am proud to have helped pass legislation in Colorado and have spoken about the challenges of having dyslexia to parents and community members. I have helped run dyslexia simulations and have seen how impactful it is for others to walk a moment in another’s shoes. I intend to continue to work and raise awareness throughout college and likely the rest of my life.
