I was born in Overland Park, KS, just south of Kansas City. Since then, I’ve lived in North Carolina, Georgia, and Colorado. I’ve lived many different areas with different cultures and seen the issues and struggles they each have, so I wanted to major in something that would involve improving the lifestyles of each and every person. That’s how I decided on a Civil Engineering major. All I had to do was find a good school for it. I had heard about Mines as an elementary school student visiting the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and occasionally seeing the Mines robotics team showing off their creations. Since I went to high school in Georgia, Mines was in the back of my mind while I considered Georgia Tech and UNC Chapel Hill. But one day, I decided to look through the profile of Mines, and shortly after doing so I knew Mines was perfect for me. The location is beautiful, the reputation is outstanding, and most importantly, Mines is a community, not a competition. Everything was perfect, except for the cost. That’s where the Harvey Scholarship came into play. Thanks to the Harvey’s and their wonderful program, I don’t have to worry about huge debt after college. As a result, I can hone in on my plan to graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering and work in the public transportation industry for years to come.
