I came to Mines from rural South Dakota, excited to engage myself in challenging science and engineering courses. The Harvey Scholarship not only enabled me to come to Mines, but provided a consistent source of resources and support during undergraduate career. My engagement with the Harvey scholarship empowered me to give back to the Mines community and understand how I can use my technical degree to pay it forward in the future. While at Mines, I was involved in Mines Without Borders and the McBride Honors Program. With the help of the Harvey Scholarship, I studied abroad in Barranquilla, Colombia, in spring of 2018.

After graduating in 2018, I spent two years working as a water resources engineer in Minnesota. I am now a Master of Public Policy candidate at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. I plan to combine my technical background with policy knowledge to work with communities struggling with increasing environmental risk. I hope to implement policies to help underserved communities more effectively adapt to climate change through improving the resiliency at the intersection of natural and built systems.
